Architectural Press & PR , Publicist
Iloniemi has been representing architectural practices over twenty years. She also teaches Part III students at the Architectural Association about communication and has written on the subject for a number of publications including ArchDaily. Her book Is It All About Image? (Wiley 2004) makes a case for architecture needing its own approach to PR and advocates a non-corporate approach to achieving this. In 2014 she was the keynote speaker at IUAV Venice’s conference “The Image of Architecture - The Architecture of Image”. Next year will see the publication of an issue of AD Architectural Design guest edited by Iloniemi focussing on the culture of communication in architecture.
Born in Helsinki, Iloniemi grew up in Finland, Switzerland and the United States. She studied History of Art at the University of Edinburgh and museology at the Ecole du Louvre in Paris followed by a post-graduate degree in the history and philosophy of architecture from the University of Cambridge. Her MA thesis at Edinburgh focussed on how Alvar Aalto promoted his work internationally. Iloniemi has thus pursued her early interests in continuing to work as an architectural publicist all the while seeking to maintain a considered approach to how critical recognition is sought and leveraged.
