Eckersley O’Callaghan , Co-Founding Director
James O'Callaghan is a structural engineer with over 20 years of experience. Widely acknowledged as an authority on structural glass, he is perhaps best known for his highly innovative designs for glass envelopes, stairs, bridges and other structural elements in Apple’s iconic retail stores around the world. He co-founded Eckersley O’Callaghan in 2004, which has since grown into a 90 strong, award-winning practice based in London, New York, San Francisco, Paris, Shanghai and Hong Kong. The practice was recognised as ‘Engineering Consultant of the Year’ at the Building Awards 2016 and has recently been awarded the Queens Award for Enterprise for the second time in the practices history.
James is a member of the Design Council’s Sounding Board, HS2 Design Panel and a Design South East Panel member. He taught at Portsmouth University and is currently Visiting Professor at TU Delft School of Architecture. In 2016, he was awarded the International Association for Bridge and Structural Engineering’s Milne Medal for excellence in structural design, one of the highest accolades for an individual in the industry, and in 2017 he was awarded the Phoenix Award for his contributions to structural glass.
