Bart Akkerhuis is an architect and founder of Paris-based firm Studio Akkerhuis, a young team of 45 creative individuals of 19 different nationalities who share a common passion for architecture and design. Since its founding in September 2014, the studio has grown rapidly, working internationally on a variety of high-profile projects. The firm’s work ranges from small-scale installations — such as a 250-seat temporary theater made of bamboo — to complex mixed-use buildings and masterplans, including the transformation of a 55,000-square-meter monumental industrial flour mill into a mixed-use complex, and a high-tech office campus in the south of France. In 2016 the studio received the Design Vanguard Award from Architectural Record and in 2019 won the prestigious World Architecture Festival Award for the Meelfabriek (Flour Factory) project in Leiden, The Netherlands. Bart holds a Masters in Architecture from the Delft University of Technology.
