Carl Fredrik Svenstedt is an architect and professor based in Paris. His built work emphasizes innovative construction methods, most notably structural stone, adapting a timeless material to make contemporary projects anchored in their landscape. This year his office was named Firm of The Year for Sustainable.
Architecture and won the French Grand Prix d’Architecture for stone construction, amongst other awards. He has also been nominated for France’s top prize, the Equerre d’Argent. Lerival in New York City produces his furniture designs. Svenstedt was born in Stockholm and grew up in Montreal, and studied at Harvard and the Yale before founding his architectural practice in 2000. He has been Visiting Professor at the Spitzer School of Architecture at City University of New York, and was Professor for many years at the Ecole Speciale d’Architecture in Paris. He has taught at the Lille, Versailles, Villette and Normandy Schools of Architecture in France., and has run workshops at the Munster School of Architecture in Germany and the Confluence Institue in Paris.
