Michael is Allen Jack+Cottier’s CEO and Principal, Design. Based in Sydney, NSW, he employs over 70 staff and has designed projects throughout the Asia-Pacific region – as far north as Inner Mongolia and as far south as Antarctica. Michael is an award-winning architect whose sector-spanning portfolio features everything from masterplanning to aged care design, student accommodation architecture, residential, sports and recreation projects, and urban design. His design for Berry Sports and Recreation Hall was named Best Sports Building at the World Architecture Festival (2009). His Milson Island Indoor Sports Stadium design received several awards; among them an International Olympic Committee Silver Medal (2013) and the Australian Institute of Architecture (AIA) National Colorbond Award for Steel Architecture (2012). All Michael’s projects – whether it’s a luxury private residence or new-city masterplan – integrate ecologically sustainable design (ESD) principles. Michael’s ESD work has been recognised with a number of peer awards. He has been a judge and juror at the World Architecture Festival for many years, and has spoken about his work at universities, both around Australia and internationally.
