Pieterjan graduated from KU Leuven as a civil engineer/architect. He completed his thesis at the ETH Zurich, after which he earned a postgraduate ‘Master in Excellence’ degree from the Berlage Institute in Amsterdam. Since 2004, Pieterjan has been working at BURO II, where he became project director in 2009. In 2011, he was made partner of the revamped BURO II & ARCHI+I to help develop the future of the office. He has extensive experience with international projects, primarily in China. He was closely involved in the design and execution of the Baiyun International Convention Centre in China, which won a WAF-Award in 2008. He also supervised many urban and architectural projects for the various branches of BURO II & ARCHI + I in Roeselare, Ghent and Brussels. Since 2017 BURO II & ARCHI + I is known under the new commercial name B2Ai. A few months ago the management structure of the architecture firm changed. Pieterjan Vermoortel is CEO and Managing Director since then.
