Founding Partner and Design Director,
Tim Kwan is the founding partner and design director of Office AIO. Founded in 2014, Office AIO is an inter-disciplinary design practice based in Beijing, offering design services through a hierarchy of creation; from the scale of architecture to interiors, to stand alone objects of desire. Office AIO’s distinctive portfolio encompassing commercial and residential projects of various scales across China have begun to attract international recognition for its context sensitive solutions and poetic sense of space, most recently winning on first attempt the Bar and Restaurant category at the 2017 Inside Awards. Born in Hong Kong and moved to New Zealand at a young age, Tim Kwan studied architecture at the University of Auckland where he graduated with first class honours in 2006, upon which he further pursued postgraduate studies at the College of Environmental Design, University of Berkeley. Returning to Auckland, he joined the architectural design team at Moller Architects and has won international award for the iconic parliament building for the Sultanate of Oman in Muscat. He was also a Design Lecturer at the University of Auckland - School of Architecture. Before founding Office AIO, Kwan have made significant contributions as a leading architectural design specialist at global design firm Hellmuth, Obata + Kassabaum.
