Irving Smith Architects
Irving Smith Architects is a research-based design practice working in sensitive environments in New Zealand and abroad. The practice has received a string of awards, including winning the Villa category at the World Architecture Festival Berlin in 2017, a UNESCO Asia-Pacific Cultural Heritage Award of Distinction in 2019, multiple New Zealand Architecture Awards in public and residential categories, and twice representing New Zealand at the Prague International Architecture Festival, where their Soft Context : Soft Architecture exhibitions presented an approach of participating with existing landscapes before generating new contexts. Jeremy has judged national architecture awards in New Zealand and India, and at World Architecture Festivals in Singapore, Berlin and Amsterdam. He also recently returned from lecturing through 8 American universities, teaches an iterative design studio at Masters-level at the University of Auckland, and has completed a design-based PHD undertaken between practice commitments; finding time at airports and while his kids are at parties.
