James Pickard 30 years’ experience as a qualified architect and co-founded Cartwright Pickard with Peter Cartwright in 1997. Cartwright Pickard is an award-winning practice renown for design innovation. James heads the practice’s London office and is also involved in design across its Leeds and Manchester offices. 2017 sees the practice celebrate its 20th anniversary. An advocate of the benefits of offsite construction, James’ expertise in pioneering uses of prefabrication in housing, office, industrial and education projects have included many award-winning schemes and he has recently spoken on the potential off modular and offsite construction at the Explore Offsite conference and at the World Architecture Festival in Berlin. James has served as a board member of Constructing Excellence. He has carried out government funded research work into the design of low energy buildings and office occupier productivity and is currently leading on a new research project into the potential for enhanced BIM applications on life cycle costing for buildings up to level 7D. He is an Honorary Professor to the University of Glasgow School of Art and Architecture.
