Maria Correia is an architect, founder and director of Segmento Urbano, a Portugal-based architecture, engineering and innovation practice driven by a simple belief: architecture has the power to solve, transform and create lasting value. Graduating with distinction from the University of Westminster and enriched by an exchange programme at RMIT Melbourne, Maria combines design excellence with systems thinking, sustainability and a deep understanding of how the built environment shapes human experience. Since founding Segmento Urbano in 2006, she has led award-nominated projects in Portugal and Angola, including World Architecture Festival finalists such as C SPOT, THE CAN, METAMORPHOSIS and, most recently, Echoes of the Void. Informed by the principles of neuroarchitecture, the project investigates how the built environment shapes perception, emotion and cognition, exploring architecture not simply as form, but as a medium capable of influencing human consciousness, wellbeing and transformation. Her work has progressively expanded beyond architecture into innovation and territorial intelligence. She leads the development of ATLAS, a territorial intelligence platform powered by artificial intelligence that translates complex planning and urban data into clear, actionable insights, democratizing access to territorial knowledge and supporting better decision-making for landowners, investors and real estate professionals. She also developed LandStaging™, a methodology that combines architecture, planning and market strategy to unlock the hidden potential of land and development opportunities. Today, Segmento Urbano operates at the intersection of architecture, technology and territorial intelligence, developing solutions that generate knowledge, reduce uncertainty and create value.
