Centre for Genital Mutilation

Health jury report

Date posted: 22/10/08

The many and varied projects in this category all showed architecture as a health giver. At the same time, many of them shied away from traditional institutionalised solutions, integrating the buildings in local culture and in the city.

The winner, Centre pour le Bien-être des femmes in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso by FAREstudio, encompasses all those basic qualities that make good architecture: political relevance, local culture/climate and rich space making.

WINNER Centre pour le Bien-être des Femmes et la prévention des mutilations génitales féminines 'G.Kambou', Burkina Faso, FAREstudio, Italy
HIGHLY COMMENDED Clinique Sainte Marie, France, Lacombe - De Florinier, France
HIGHLY COMMENDED Mornington Centre, Australia, Lyons, Australia
HIGHLY COMMENDED St. Olavs Hospital Neuro Centre, Norway, Narud - Stokke - Wiig AS, Arstad Architects, Niels Torp, Norway

Your World Architecture Festival was indeed a celebration - a great success! It was also very well organised. The exhibition was excellent.
