What do past entrants and delegates think?

It has been amazing to be part of the WAF award winning team. When you look across the range and quality of projects put forward for the WAF Awards, to be short listed and then become associated with the overall winner is a momentous achievement for Grant Associates.

How technology moulds practice

Date posted: 05/10/12

'Technology helps us to understand nature, the performance of nature and the physics of nature,' said Enric Ruiz Geli, principal of Barcelona practice and previous WAF winner Cloud 9. He made this statement during a panel discussion entitled 'Reviewing the architect's office: architecture, technology and the future'.

Matias del Campo, Principal, SPAN, added that 'technology also help architects to understand better environmental conditions, and also help shape our architecture'.

Peter Cook, principal of CRAB Studio, commented that one owes fast building to technology, to be able to deliver projects on time, on budget and that 'dreams  become a reality because of technology' and that technology allows one to b'uild on our own imagination'.

The computer has become a partner in design. Technology is not only miniaturised, but can grow and pull the technology providers along.

These were some of the comments from the three panel members during the session on reviewing the architect's office: architecture, technology and the future.

The participants also talked about the relationship between technology and culture and about how culture will affect the way one uses the machine .

How has technology changed the way architects work?

Architects can move/react very fast, realise projects very fast and the technology also enables a radical architectural approach, said Ruiz Geli .

'One can create communication simultaneously with the different professionals working from different parts of the world,' added del Campo. 'I do not do any sketches on paper anymore,', he added

Cook agreed that using technology has led to a better way of life and that when one get comfortable with technology, it is time to move on and to take it to the next level.
