It has been amazing to be part of the WAF award winning team. When you look across the range and quality of projects put forward for the WAF Awards, to be short listed and then become associated with the overall winner is a momentous achievement for Grant Associates.

Last night WAF kicked off with a lively Pecha Kucha evening, hosted by Tokyo-based architect Mark Dytham, inventor of the format which consists of speaking for 20 seconds to each of 20 slides. Held at at the Moshe Safdie designed Art and Science museum. the event started with an explanation by Dytham of the origin of Pecha Kucha, which started as a way to use a space in has office and grew to be a global phenomenon. It has been used to raise significant funds for victims of earthquakes in Haiti and Japan.
Speakers who came from the U.S,, Singapore, Australia and Spain, discussed everything from the wonders of rebar to the value of home-made interventions. There was even a short film showing a building as experienced by a very grumpy looking cat. It was a lively start to three days of stimulating discussion.
