Michael Heenan is a principal of Allen Jack+Cottier Architects (AJ+C) in Sydney, Australia with 100 architects in offices across South East Asia.
He is presently designing a number of new cities with disruptive environmental strategies where urbanity and ecology share equal status.
As well as residential, commercial, sporting and educational buildings, Michael enjoys the challenges of new and unique projects such as the largest cooking and dining facility in the world (5,000 seats and 200 chefs), a new living quarters in Antarctica using the latest composite boat building technologies, a 350 metre long car racing facility that seats 2,000 guests, the fitout of a 30 metre boat and a new 6,000 seat sports stadium.
Michael’s role in AJ+C has helped the practice become one of the most recognized in Australia. His participation has resulted in the practice winning international design competitions and numerous Awards for Excellence in Architecture, including consecutive Blacket prizes, Sustainability and Public Architecture Awards.
After exhibiting in the Venice Architecture Biennale in 2009, Michael became the Chair of the Australian Institute of Architects (NSW) Awards for Excellence Jury in 2010 (Commercial and Interiors), and won the Best Sports Building in the World Architecture Festival in 2009.
