Between possibility and responsibility
Wednesday 22 - Friday 24 October 10.00 - 17.30 daily
The Height exhibition examined the relationship between architecture and the factors which influence the creation of these structures. It took 12 tower designs from around the world, designed to take into account a series of differing context: climate, cost, energy, and social conditions.
The towers examined in the exhibition were:

Theme: From possibility to responsibility
The exhibition explores how the best architecture combines possibility and responsibility and redefines the relationship between them. Tall buildings take this to the extreme, because they inevitably test the bounds of possibility and are often considered irresponsible, but what the exhibition wants to show is that in some circumstances height is responsible
The exhibition looks at how shape, structure and skin are influenced by factors such as
geography - including climate, latitude and geology
urban presence - interaction with the city including skyline, transportation and public space
politics/economics - the balance between political control through planning ordinances, and the economic priorities that arise from the relationship between outlay and return on investment.
The Exhibition intends to move the discussion of tall buildings beyond the icon debate and to recognise the enormous contribution they can make, to value and to urban life, because they require a sophisticated synthesis of vastly divergent phenomena. Ultimately, the exhibition will show visitors that in architecture whilst there are responsibilities there is also a wide scope of opportunity as well of which tall buildings are an obvious manifestation.
