Entry Conditions
Entry Requirements
All entries must be submitted in English. There are three compulsory stages to entry:
- Completion of online entry form & payment (this will generate a unique identity code which can be downloaded and attached to the physical entry).
- Submission of exhibition boards, with identity code attached.
- Attendance at the World Architecture Festival.
Online entry
Entrants must submit an online entry which will include contact details and a MINIMUM of:
- 6 photographs of the project (NOT visualisations unless for the Future Projects category)
- 3 further images of a site plan, floor plan, key section (or equivalent for masterplanning and landscape projects)
- 250 words of explanatory text
and a MAXIMUM of:
- 20 images including photographs, elevations, sections, details and plans.
- 1000 words of explanatory text.
The information submitted in your online entry will be used on our website.
By submitting the entry you acknowledge that The World Architecture Festival and its partners have the right to reproduce photography, drawings and other information materials in whole or part without payment of copyright (where we are made aware of their names, photographers will be acknowledged) in connection to the Festival.
Payment will be taken on completion of online entry.
Entry boards
In addition to the online entry form, entrants must also submit 2 x A2 boards summarising their entry which will be used for judging and displayed in the gallery of entries on site at the Festival. The boards must be shipped to our offices in the UK. The facility to download address labels will be available within your WAF account, at Step 5, 'Submit your boards'.
If entering more than one category, a pair of exhibition boards must be provided for each category.
Board contents
- Entry boards must include photographs of the building (in either colour or black and white), a site plan, drawings and a 250 word description in English.
- Entry boards must be A2 size – 420mm (wide) x 594mm (high), approximately 16.5in wide x 23.4in high – preferably lightweight art board or equivalent.
- The orientation of the entry boards can be either portrait, landscape or a combination of the two.
- To ensure anonymity in judging, no names of entrants or collaborating parties may appear on any part of the front of the board. Each board must have an official identity code stuck on the back, plus all contact details.
Submission of boards
- Deadline for receipt of exhibition boards is Wednesday, 8 July 2009. To ensure timely receipt, we recommend using a carrier that guarantees delivery.
- Each set of exhibition boards must be wrapped and labelled with labels provided.
- Entries must be marked as NCV (no commercial value) on any courier documentation. The organisers will NOT accept any courier charges or taxes resulting from delivery. Personal deliveries to the World Architecture Festival offices are accepted during normal working hours.
- The World Architecture Festival assumes no liability for loss or damage to entry boards on delivery.
Return of boards
- Entry boards will not be returned.
Submission of boards' artwork
- Send with the boards a CD of their artwork for each project, with the label provided affixed to the CD case.

- The facility to download these labels is available within your WAF account, at Step 5, Submit your boards.
Attending the World Architecture Festival
If an entry is shortlisted, then the architect is expected to be in Barcelona for the festival to present the entry to the Jury. Shortlisted entrants will be notified in July 2009.
How much does it cost?
There are two entry options:
- 995 € - Awards entry, including 2 x three day visitor tickets for the Festival
- 545 € - Awards entry, without visitor tickets
- 400 € - Subsequent entries after first entry completed
- 695 € - Three day visitor tickets are available
Plus:
- 695 € - Single three day ticket
- 1150 € - Discounted rate for two tickets
- 2085 € - Discounted rate for four tickets
- 200 € - Three day student pass
- 200 € - One day Spanish residents pass
The price of visitor passes will increase gradually after the award entry date has passed so just like an airline, the sooner you book, the cheaper your pass will be. Follow this link to register your festival pass today.
Each entry includes:
- Your entry displayed on-site at the Festival in the Awards Gallery.
- Your entry published in the Festival catalogue.
- Your entry displayed on the World Buildings Directory.
Entry conditions:
- Payment will be taken at point of online submission.
- Buildings may be entered into multiple categories; Payment will be applicable to each separate entry.
- There is no limit to the number of buildings entered per practice.
- Bank transfer payments must be received into our account by 8 July 2009 in order for entries to be judged.
When is the Entry Deadline?
- All online entries must be submitted by 26 June 2009.
- Accompanying exhibition boards must be delivered to our offices by 8 July 2009.
Please note: by submitting an entry into the World Architecture Festival awards that you are agreeing to cooperate with our PR agency, FD, should be lucky enough to win the ‘World Building of the Year’ award or your individual category. They will work with you to globally promote your practice at no cost to yourself.
